FoodLens — Privacy Policy

1. Data Collected and Purposes

1.1 Camera Access

• Camera permission is required solely for the barcode scanning feature.
• Camera images are not recorded, stored, or transmitted. All camera processing occurs instantly on the device.

1.2 Barcode Data

• When you scan a product, the barcode number is sent to our server only to retrieve product information.
• If the product exists in our database, the information is returned instantly.
• If not, product data is retrieved from the Open Food Facts API.
• No personal data is transmitted. Only the barcode number is processed.

1.3 Advertising Identifier (AdMob)

• The free version of the App uses Google AdMob to display advertisements.
• Google may process advertising identifiers to provide personalized or non-personalized ads, depending on user consent, device settings, and applicable regulations.

1.4 Premium & Purchase Data

Premium subscriptions and in-app purchases are managed through:

• RevenueCat
• Google Play Billing
• Apple StoreKit (for iOS)

Only anonymous, store-generated subscription status information is processed. We do not access, store, or process payment or card details.

1.5 Favorites & Scan History

• Favorites and scan history are stored locally on your device only.
• They are not uploaded or stored on our servers.
• Premium users benefit from an increased scan history limit.

1.6 No Personal Data Collection

FoodLens does not require user accounts. We do not collect:

• Names
• Email addresses
• Phone numbers
• Location data
• Any other personally identifiable information

2. Third-Party Services

FoodLens uses the following third-party services:

• RevenueCat (subscription management)
• Google Play Billing
• Google AdMob (advertising)
• Expo Services (Sentry, Updates)
• Open Food Facts API (product information)
• Our own NestJS backend API

These services may process data in accordance with their own privacy policies.

3. Data Storage

• Barcodes: Processed on the server only for product lookup purposes
• Scan history & favorites: Stored exclusively on the user’s device

4. Children’s Privacy

• FoodLens is not intended for use by children under the age of 13.
• We do not knowingly collect any data from children.

5. Your Rights

• Because FoodLens operates anonymously and does not collect personally identifiable information, identity-based data requests are not applicable.
• Users may clear locally stored data (favorites and scan history) at any time through the app settings.

6. Changes to This Privacy Policy

• This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time.
• The most current version will always be made available within the App or on the official policy page.
